Contextual Handgun: The Armed Citizen/Public Encounters

An in-depth course examining the challenges of lethal-force encounters in public, Contextual Handgun: The Armed Citizen/Public Encounters imparts the technical and mental skills necessary to solve commonly encountered violence-related problems in public spaces. Students will be shown WHY the context in which we find ourselves can change our tactics, and HOW to develop a holistic approach to personal protection. This skill-intensive 2 day course covers not only the application of practical handgun skills in a public environment but also the cognitive skills to identify and assess potentially or actually violent situations, and choose the prudent course of action while ensuring adherence to legal use-of-force standards.

Topics include, but are not limited to: the legalities of use of force, types of attacks, avoidance skills, deselection, OC Spray, human anatomy and the importance of accuracy, one-handed access/shooting skills, how to manage the presence of bystanders, utilizing cover and concealment, 3-dimensional targeting, unconventional shooting positions, malfunction clearances, life-saving medical skills and more, resulting in students who are far better equipped to protect themselves, their friends, and their loved ones if violence becomes unavoidable.

Class Cancellation Policy The only way we can know that a class is full is when the specified number of students have registered and paid their tuition fees. Once a class is full, we have to turn away others who would like to attend. If you cancel too close to class, or fail to show up for class, you potentially keep someone else from attending and would cost us a student. Please be sure you can attend a class before signing up for it. In order to minimize this, we have strict policies on prepayment and cancellation. To secure a slot in a course full payment is required unless otherwise specified. • Cancellations by a student inside the thirty day window of when class will be held are non-refundable but creditable to another Citizens Defense Research class anywhere the student wishes to train, within 18 months of the cancellation. • Cancellations by students the week of the course will be non-refundable and will receive no credit. • Cancellations by Citizens Defense Research will be fully refunded within 14 calendar days. We believe this policy is fair to you, to other students, and to us. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
