Give an old t-shirt a new life in this hands-on class where you'll learn to tie-dye black or dark-colored clothing. You'll learn how to tie your t-shirts into various patterns, then use bleach to lighten the fabric and prepare it for dying. You'll learn how to prevent the bleach from putting holes in your clothing, and then you’ll use professional-grade dyes to create a custom color palette for your item(s).
- I recommend sticking with tees and tanks for this class. I do not recommend bringing large items like hoodies, jackets, pants, dresses, etc. (Since this is a more complex process, I think we'll get the best results if folks have less fabric to work with!)
- VERY IMPORTANT: Items need to be at least 80% cotton for bleach dye to work! If the item doesn’t have a tag, don’t bring it!
- Any colors are okay to bring; my professional recommendation is dark colors like black, navy blue, green, and brown work best. Avoid red, pink, orange, yellow, and any colors with heathered colors, as they do not reliably bleach well.
- The brand Comfort Colors does not reliably bleach well; I don’t recommend bringing that brand to this class.
- Wear something you don’t care about to this class.
