Not Yet Free: A Crash Course in Modern Slavery – Abolition 101 Event

🗓️ On November 22, join us for a powerful conversation about freedom, justice, and the unfinished work of abolition.

Virginia Justice Alliance, Abolish Slavery VA, and the Abolish Slavery National Network invite you to “Not Yet Free: A Crash Course in Modern Slavery,” an eye-opening abolition training that uncovers the 13th Amendment loophole that still allows slavery through mass incarceration.

🖤 This free event shines a light on the ongoing reality of modern slavery in the U.S., especially inside Virginia prisons. While the 13th Amendment ended chattel slavery, it created an exception that legalized slavery as punishment for a crime. Today, that loophole drives mass incarceration and disproportionately devastates Black and Brown communities.

🔥 What You’ll Learn at This Abolition 101 Training:

  • The hidden truth behind the 13th Amendment and modern-day slavery
  • The connection between mass incarceration and systemic racism
  • How legalized slavery continues in Virginia prisons
  • Real-world stories from directly impacted people
  • Community organizing strategies and how YOU can take action

💥 Why Attend:

  • Learn why abolition is still necessary today
  • Stand in solidarity with directly impacted organizers
  • Get tools to take local and statewide action in Virginia
  • Build community with others committed to ending slavery in all forms

💸 Cost:This training is free because freedom should never come at a cost.We suggest a $20 donation to support our movement led by directly impacted organizers: your contribution powers education, grassroots organizing, and legislative advocacy.

Who Should Attend:

  • Students and educators seeking social justice education
  • Activists and advocates for racial justice and prison reform
  • Justice-impacted individuals and their families
  • Anyone passionate about building a future free from slavery

📢 Freedom requires action. On November 22, don’t just learn—organize. Show up. Stand with us.
