NORAID Documentary Screening

Overview

Screening of award-winning NORAID: Irish America & the IRA, introduced by special guest Martin Galvin. Kilashandra in the pub after the film

Join the Schenectady Ancient Order of Hibernians for a special screening of the award-winning RTÉ documentary NORAID: Irish America and the IRA on Saturday, October 3, at the Schenectady AOH, 1748 State Street, Schenectady, NY.

The documentary explores the remarkable history of Irish Northern Aid (NORAID) and the role Irish America has played in public affairs in the North of Ireland. Through archival footage and firsthand accounts, the film examines NORAID’s grassroots organizing, fundraising, political advocacy and publicity efforts, as well as the scrutiny the organization faced from American, British and Irish authorities. It also traces the growing political influence of Irish-American activists and their place in the story that ultimately led toward the Irish peace process.

Special Guest: Martin Galvin

We are honored to welcome Martin Galvin, former National Publicity Director for NORAID and current National Freedom for All Ireland Chairman of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, as our special guest speaker.

Galvin, who is prominently featured in the documentary, was one of the best-known Irish-American republican activists during the Troubles. He will speak about his experiences, introduce the film and provide a firsthand perspective on the people, events and history depicted in the documentary.

The evening will include food, the documentary screening and Irish music in the AOH pub afterward:

  • 5:00 PM — Cocktail Hour & Appetizers
  • 5:45 PM — Talk & Introduction to the Film by Martin Galvin
