The Alabama Chapter is constituted to advance the purposes of the National Association of Social Workers in Alabama and to encourage and facilitate participation by all members.  It is a basic administrative unit of the National Association of Social Workers, Inc.  NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.The program of the Alabama Chapter shall be related to the basic goals of the National Association of Social Workers, Inc., taking into consideration the special needs and interests of the members within the Alabama Chapter.

<h3>Presenter: Teri M. Peters</h3>Outreach &amp; Edu. Program ManagerU.S. EEOC ~ Birmingham District<h3> </h3>Ms. Teri M. Peters employment with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission began in the summer of 1999 serving as a Federal Investigator in the Jackson Mississippi Area Office. Ms. Peters continued her advancement Mwith the Commission by acquiring the title of Manager for the US EEOC, Charlotte District’s Outreach and Education Programs. Most recently, Ms. Peters accepted the opportunity of returning to the Birmingham District in the same capacity to continue the work of the Commission. Ms. Peter’s passion for Democracy has taken her abroad on assignment to Africa, Angola as a team member with the United States Agency for International Development’s Democracy and Governance Programs. Teri’s most recent honors include being an EEOC Chair’s nominee and award recipient, for her contributions to White House Historically Black Colleges and Universities Initiative (WHHBCU). She also received honors for her contributions as a member of the EEOC’s National Religious Discrimination and Tribal Employment Rights Workgroups. Ms. Peter’s most recent national outreach events include The Impact of Covid-19 on the Asians American Community, Accommodating the ADA, Modern Day Slavery: Combating Labor Trafficking and an Equal Pay Event with Alabama’s very own Lily Ledbetter as the keynote speaker. Her efforts resulted in the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which was the first bill signed into Law by U.S. President Barack Obama. Ms. Peters is an Illinois native. She attended Springfield College, Springfield, IL and Jackson State University, Jackson, MS, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Pre-Law and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration.
