3 hr session

Note

This course is offered in one segment via Zoom. You will receive a registration confirmation email with Zoom link information, additional instructions and a Zoom link a week before the training from the Institute for Human Service's training team (training@ihs-trainet.com), and another reminder 24 hours before the session starts. You may want to add the email address to your contact list to ensure the email comes through. Please check in the spam folder in case you don’t receive the first email. Sometimes employers’ firewalls and filtering services block communication from unrecognizable email addresses. We advise you include an alternative email address to prevent this from happening.

About the Course

Note: This course material has previously been trained as part of the 6-hour Self-Harm in Children and Teens course.

This 3-hour online interactive course is written for social workers, psychologists, and other clinicians who are assessing the needs of children with significant safety concerns in the areas of self-harm to include SIB (self- injurious behavior), eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), and NSSI (Non-Suicidal Self Injury). We will review the characteristics, and behavioral indicators of these along with their accompanying predictors and diagnosis in this intermediate level course. Current research on best practice for treatment will be reviewed. The research-based concept of Self-Compassion will be introduced as a useful tool in working with these families. This will be an interactive online session with an opportunity for questions.

Course Objectives

As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Define Non-Suicidal Self Injury including disordered eating.
  2. Identify self- injurious behavior as seen in individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.
  3. Describe the core ideas in Self-Compassion.
  4. Equip themselves with resources to support the clinical needs of their clients.
