New Jersey requires all boat operators, including jet ski operators, to have a New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate. This course is suitable for adults and children age 13 and older. The course is taught by qualified U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructors and concentrates on all aspects of staying safe while out on the water. Among the topics to be covered are proper use of life jackets, required safety equipment, and the U.S. Aids to Navigation System including types of buoys and beacons. Boating law and procedures for handling boating emergencies such as hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard recovery and running aground will also be covered. There is a test at the conclusion of the course and all who pass receive a State of New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate.

Boating Safety ClassesBrigantine Flotilla 85 of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary wants to help you boat safely and legally. We will once again conduct a series of “Boat America” safety classes.

All operators of power vessels and personal watercraft (Jet Ski, Wave Runner, etc.) on the waters of the State of New Jersey, regardless of age, are required to possess a boating safety certificate. Upon passing the test at the end of the “Boat America” class a NJ Boating Safety Certificate will be issued. The class is a must for all beginning boaters and a great refresher on boating safety for operators of all experience levels. Among the topics to be covered are proper use of life jackets, required safety equipment, and the U. S. Aids to Navigation System including types of buoys and beacons. Boating law and procedures for handling boating emergencies such as hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard recovery and running aground will also be covered.

Class details:

- Classes will be taught by qualified U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors with NJSP certification.

- Each class starts at 9:00A.M. and will run until approximately 5:00 P.M.

- Classes will be held at the Brigantine Beach Community Center, 265 42nd St. in Brigantine, NJ

- Fee for the class is $60.00

- Individuals must be 13 years of age at the start of the class.

- Class size is limited so please register early to guarantee a spot.
