NIP is a comprehensive learning center that offers a broad array of postgraduate psychoanalytic programs, which are responsive to the needs of today's mental health professionals.

We are excited to present this new reading group, led by distinguished writers and clinicians, who will engage in informal and collaborative theoretical and clinical discussions with participants. Our goal is to include the proliferation of voices that have previously been excluded from, or felt silenced in, our field.Presenter: Avgi Saketopoulou, PsyDMonday April 12 and May 3, 2021 7:30-9:00pmApril 12 - Are gender and sexuality as distinct as we are imagining them to be?May 3 - Race, Sexuality, and ConsentThe group will meet via Zoom, and readings will be available to registrants in advance. Spaces are limited to 25 and will be reserved on a first come first served basis. Register now!Avgi Saketopoulou is a Greek and Greek-Cypriot analyst. She trained and now teaches at the NYU Postdoctoral Program, and is also on faculty at the William Alanson White Institute, the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, the Mitchell Center, the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, and the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. She serves on the editorial board of Psychoanalytic Dialogues, The Psychoanalytic Quarterly, and Studies in Gender and Sexuality. Her written work has received the Ralph Roughton Award, the annual JAPA essay prize, the Symonds prize, and the Ruth Stein Prize. She is currently at work on a solicited book manuscript provisionally titled “Overwhelm: Risking Sexuality Beyond Consent” and is co-chair of the first conference in the US dedicated to the work of Jean Laplanche coming up on October 2-3, 2021 “Laplanche in the States: the sexual and the cultural”.Note to NIP candidates:  Each 2-week reading group section counts as 1 ACE or 1 “other”  extra academic requirement.
