Night Hike

Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.

Experience the canyon after dark. Join knowledgeable guides on a fairly short hike and maybe we’ll even howl at the moon if it’s up and glowing!  
Who is Invited
Open to ages 14 and older; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Participants should be able to hike 3 miles (round trip) over rugged but beautiful trails with some elevation gain.
Registration &amp; Fees 
Registration required for EACH participant.  Sorry, no group registrations. All Natural Area entry <A HREF="http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/government-canyon/fees-facilities/entrance-fees" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">fees</A> apply; please stop at the self-pay area next to the right of the Fee Booth to self-pay.   Correct change is required: $6 per person aged 13 and older; 12 and under are free.  If you have a Texas State Park Pass, please enter the number on the appropriate line of the self-pay envelope. Credit cards are NOT accepted when self-paying.
When &amp; Where to Meet
Arrive by 6:15 pm for a 6:30 departure.  Meet near the rainwater harvesting tower next to the Visitor’s Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.   
What to Wear &amp; Bring
Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes. Bring a flashlight, at least a quart of water, and a snack if you like.
Requirements
Group size is limited to 15. No pets please. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.
