Frequently asked questions

What should I bring?

Weather and conditions vary. Stay prepared by bringing close-toed shoes, layered clothing, long pants, flashlights (red lights disturb the nightlife less), and plenty of water.

Are walk-ups welcome?

Reservations are required for our Summer Night Hikes due to the high volume of interest and participation. Since this event takes place after preserve closure, registered participants will be signed in at the gate before we lock back up before the start of the hike.

How do I donate?

Cash donations are accepted at the event. Please make checks payable to 'The Wildlands Conservancy' and receipts are available upon request. Online payments can be made through wildlandsconservancy.org under the 'Give' tab. You can also donate on this Eventbrite registration!

Are there restrooms on the trail?

Wind Wolves Preserve has restroom facilities available to use at the beginning and end of the event. There are no restrooms along the trail, so arrive early to be prepared for the hike!

How do I stay updated on events like these at Wind Wolves?

There are several ways to keep up with Wind Wolves! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook @windwolvespreserve. Sign up for notifications from us on Eventbrite. Visit our website wildlandsconservancy.org for information on The Wildlands Conservancy and to sign up for our Behold the Beauty newsletter.

Is the hike difficult?

The San Emigdio Canyon Trail is a series of connecting trails and creek crossings with a high point at Raven's Landing. Trail conditions vary day to day. The trail is mostly dirt with rocks throughout and possibly some muddy areas. Prepare for an elevation change of around 400 feet.

Are dogs allowed on the hike?

We love our furry friends! Dogs are welcome but must remain on leash. Word of caution: what we witness on the trail depends on how quiet our group can be, and pets can add to that. Please assess your dog to make sure that it is hike, people, and dog ready. Don't forget to pack water for them too!
