Engaging in Halloween hijinks, Alberta Street Gallery members Forest Salazar and Julia Alora share some of their more haunting art this month. Approaching the subject matter playfully, they’ve created a tableau of treats and tricks to tantalize passersby.
Forest's paintings take you into the heart of the hunt for candy. Accompanied by a series of skulls in homage to the Mexican tradition of honoring the dead, Forest brings you a body of work that focuses on the three most important parts of Halloween: candy, costumes, and celebrating life.
Julia’s metal sculptures depict creepy crawlers and freaky fliers, gleefully demonstrating her admiration of animals -- even the ones that give people goosebumps. A libra and a lifelong lover of the spooky season, Julia sculpts to share the beauty of steel, spiders, and scary critters.
Together their work rings in autumn with aplomb, gracing the front windows with a tribute to nostalgic Octobers, fearful fun, and the taste of too many sweets on your tongue.
Despite the scary art this month, Alberta Street Gallery is a friendly and vibrant cooperative gallery of 30 local artists in the heart of the Alberta Arts District in Northeast Portland.
