Join Kansas City PBS on Monday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for a free preview screening of Nichols’ Folly: A Century of the Country Club Plaza and a panel discussion to follow.
This new documentary, produced by Kansas City PBS’ digital news source, Flatland, will examine the long and complex story of one of Kansas City’s most renowned landmarks. One hundred years after its opening, the Country Club Plaza remains an alternative downtown destination with decidedly luxurious shopping options.
With Kansas City PBS’ Emmy Award-winning multi-media producer Emily Woodring at the helm, Nichols' Folly will unveil the Plaza’s complicated past and consider the shopping center’s future.
After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with Woodring and others featured in the film including Alvin Brooks, a community leader and former KCMO Councilman; Bill Worley, J.C. Nichols biographer and retired history professor; and Elizabeth Rosin, CEO of Rosin Preservation.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for all attendees. The film will start at 6:00 and the panel discussion will follow immediately after.
Nichols’ Folly will premiere on Kansas City PBS Channel 19.1 on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. on Channel 19.1.
