Participants will create their own Dia de los Muertos Nicho, or Day of the Dead Box. Nichos are an object of Latino Folk Art.

Workshop will be outdoors, with individual working stations following guidelines from health officials. If participants are experiencing covid-related symptoms please let us know promptly as you will not be allowed to participate due to safety concerns. We will gladly refund you the registration fee.*Join us for a Flower Crown Workshop. The workshop is taught by returning instructors Judith Pozos and Fransisco Soto. In this workshop, you will create your own personalized Nicho, and learn its history. Nichos are traditionally created to adorn altars during the Day of the Dead. They are 3-dimensional boxes decorated brightly with a variety of images and objects. Space is limited so make sure to reserve your spot! No walk-ins.La Catrina Art Workshops series is inspired by The Day of the Dead. Your participation will help fund the Sherman Heights year round activities including free arts &amp; culture programming.For more information please call (619) 232-5181About our workshop Instructor: Judith Pozos and Fransisco SotoJudith Rangel-Pozos has volunteered at the Sherman Heights Community Center for many years. She has helped the center with their monthly food bank and is a member of the Day of the Dead steering committee. Juddith&#x27;s dedication and passion for arts and crafts, has contributed to the growth of our Day of the Dead Celebration. She has helped with our community altar, the procession, and leading workshops such as “Los Nichos” and Flower Crowns. Judith is a wife and mother to two boys. Francisco Soto has been a Sherman Heights resident for over 20 years. He has volunteered in our community since 1994. He has participated in community clean ups, graffiti removal, planted trees, taught youth sports, arts, and tutored. Francisco Soto is currently working at Sherman Heights Community Center as a Program Manager.
