A conversation with writer/director Jesse Atlas, whose debut feature ASSASSIN, starring Bruce Willis, hits theaters March 31st.

Join NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) for a conversation with director and writer Jesse Atlas, whose debut feature film ASSASSIN (starring Bruce Willis, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Dominic Purcell) is set to be released in theaters on March 31st, distributed by Saban Films. Jesse is an NFMLA alum, and the winner of our 2018 Best of NFMLA Award for Best New Filmmaker.

Jesse will discuss the transition from short to feature filmmaking, with some focus on his previous projects and on ASSASSIN, which was adapted from his short film LET THEM DIE LIKE LOVERS. He will also discuss his experience writing and directing in the industry, the filmmaking process, his focus on genre thrillers, and advice for emerging filmmakers.

This conversation will be moderated by Nancy Collet, film festival specialist and founder and president at Cinema Collet.

Jesse Atlas is a writer/director that crafts high-concept, character-driven genre thrillers. His feature debut "Assassin" hits theaters in the spring of 2023. Previously, Jesse's mind-bending sci-fi short films "Record/Play" and "Let Them Die Like Lovers" have played at Sundance, Tribeca, Fantastic Fest and countless other festivals, racking up dozens of awards and accolades. Both films were picked up for feature adaptations, with "Let Them Die Like Lovers" evolving into "Assassin". Before making narratives, Jesse honed his skills as an editor of trailers, music videos, commercials, and documentaries.

Veteran film festival specialist Nancy Collet leverages her 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry for every client. She launched Cinema Collet in 2007 after her 10-year tenure as Director of Programming at AFI FEST. Located in Beverly Hills, Cinema Collet provides strategic consulting services to independent filmmakers, film festivals, universities, distribution companies, cultural institutions, and conferences worldwide. The extensive offerings include film festival strategy and advocacy; representing films and securing distribution for filmmakers; publicity; marketing and website development; creating and launching new film festivals; festival programming; large-scale event management/production/marketing; and acquisitions scouting.

Collet has launched numerous film festivals around the world including The ShortList Film Festival in partnership with The Wrap News, the Cabo Film Festival, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, the Infinity Film Festival, Beverly Hills, the Audience Awards Film Festival, and the La Costa Film Festival. Cinema Collet conceived and launched a national showcase for emerging Latino filmmakers for NUVOtv called Nu Point of View. Nancy also spent four years producing TheGrill, the Wrap News’ annual Media Leadership Conference in Beverly Hills.

Additional clients include the USC Shoah Foundation, New York University, The Toronto International Film Festival, The Guanajuato Int’l Film Festival, The Whistler Film Festival, The French Consulate, Ketchum, Sports and Entertainment, Off Plus Camera Film Festival, The Canadian Film Centre and Telefilm Canada.

Collet has covered the major film festivals and markets around the world since 1997, and also served as a juror and panelist for numerous events, including the AFM, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, Panama Film Festival, Romania International Film Festival, Napa Valley Film Festival, HBO Aspen Comedy Arts Festival, Palm Springs Shorts Fest, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Bahamas Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Kansas City Film Festival, Sonoma Film Festival and Ashland Independent Film Festival.

From 1997 to 2007, Collet worked for the AFI FEST, and in 2000 was promoted to Director of Programming. She secured premieres of dozens of Academy Award winning films and hundreds of celebrities. She created partnerships with the AFM, Kodak, ArcLight Hollywood and the Skirball Cultural Center. During her tenure at AFI, the festival more than tripled in size and firmly established itself as a world-renowned event.

Nancy is a 1989 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and has a dual degree in Marketing and Psychology.

She grew up in New York City and started her career in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency.
