About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
  • UNDER 14 WITH PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN
  • Paid venue parking

Next to the pond in St Mary's churchyard, we will look at newts, discuss their lives, habits and past times. Using recycled tetrapak we will make our own individual newts, noticing the details of their markings. We will work with scissors, a sharp needle, inks and rags, which is why the workshop is for anyone over 6 years old, accompanied by an adult. There will be gloves and aprons but you may choose to wear older clothes in case you get messy! You will take home your own newt and new knowledge and appreciation of these baby dragons living in our neighbourhood.

Please wear weather-appropriate clothes and shoes, suitable for working outdoors.

Frequently asked questions

why is it age restricted?

We are recommending the workshop for over 6 year olds because we are using scissors and sharp dry-point needles. Children under 10 need to be accompanied by an adult.

what if it rains?

We can still run the workshop if it rains, but you will want to wear waterproof shoes/boots and overalls. We have a gazebo. If it is very windy and stormy the workshop will be cancelled.

are there toilets?

there are toilets in the church nearby

where can i park?

there is a small car park next to the Welcome Centre. There is also free parking in streets nearby.

Can i leave my under 18 year old child?

We are not DBI checked adults running the course, so it is recommended that under 14's are accompanied by an adult. There will be adults helping, but the workshop participant is expected to work independently, without help.

Will i get to touch a newt?

We will not be touching the newts, sorry. It is better to leave them alone and not disturb them.
