Netmaking Conversation Circle

EartHand Gleaners Society is an arts based organization that fosters ecological diversity and community.Based in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada and founded in 2013  our intention is to:Develop environmental education by fostering hand-based skill development through the creative arts, pursuing creative ways of reducing green-waste through up-purposing of  waste stream materials and invasive plants. We are thrilled to be in regular partnership with Vancouver Park Board, Stanley Park Ecology Society, Environmental Youth Alliance and Hives for Humanity for the various programs we create.

EartHand Gleaners Society

<P>Brothers  Butch and Alley Sakiyama remember as young boys making fish nets with linen in the basement of the family home for their community in Steveston. Still very active in the fishing community and busy using their net mending skills, Butch and Alley join EartHand to share their knowledge and assist in getting our nets started. Like other weaving conversation circles, we will begin with time to learn  new skills - working with netting needles using our home grown and spun linen line. Time allows for story telling and conversation while we work together, deepening our understanding of the cultural traditions of fishing this coast and our reliance and connection to both the Land & Sea.<BR></P>
