NE GWiSE Fall Kickoff

New England Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (“N-E G-wise”) is a new alliance between groups of graduate women in STEM from universities in Boston and across New England. We’re joining forces to address the issues facing graduate women in STEM.

The NE GWiSE 2022-23 fall event will kick off the new academic year and our event season with the theme "Community and Coalition Building".

Come join us at this year&#x27;s New England Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (NE GWiSE) Fall Kickoff Event featuring a keynote presentation by Anouska Bhattacharyya from YW Boston and community building poster session! Our theme this year is Community and Coalition Building. In light of this theme, we welcome all event attendees to participate in the casual social poster session following the keynote presentation. Participants are encouraged to present a poster on their research or any topic of their passion. Come celebrate the work and passions of graduate students from schools across New England and their contributions to our greater community! We will spend the morning connecting, sharing our research and passions, and learning about how we can build a community of graduate students. We are thrilled to announce our Keynote Speaker: Anouska Bhattacharyya. Dr. Anouska Bhattacharyya is the Vice President of Programs at YW Boston. Anouska is deeply invested in issues of race, gender and equity in higher education and healthcare. Anouska was the director of Harvard’s international program, managing incoming students’ immigration status, funding and curriculum development against a backdrop of increasing state violence and xenophobia. She assisted in the overhaul of the university’s core curriculum, and organized faculty protests at the decision to end DACA in 2017. She brings over a decade of expertise in higher education to YW.Prior to YW Boston, Anouska was heavily involved in the University of Pennsylvania’s MSTP: a program designed to diversify the physician-scientist community in Philadelphia and beyond. She is an award-winning teacher at Harvard, Northeastern and MIT. Anouska received her Ph.D. in history of science from Harvard University in 2013 as a result of her research examining the genealogy of mental health in the British Empire, specifically what it means to be simultaneously colonized by the state and by medicine. She received her bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, and an M.Phil. in history of science, medicine and technology, both from Cambridge University, UK. N﻿otes:The event will be held in person. The talk will be recorded, but not streamed. Masks will be optional, but strongly recommended to encourage a healthy community where all can participate. Light refreshments will be served during the poster session. The finalized location and schedule of events will be shared with registered attendees closer to the event.Graduate students of all genders are welcome and encouraged to attend.Please bring a reusable water bottle and/or mug to reduce waste.
