Description

NCNW, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit "organization of organizations" founded December 5, 1935 by an educator and government consultant, Mary McLeod Bethune and led by our past icon civil rights Leader Dr. Dorothy Irene Height for over 40 years. Our mission is to lead, develop and advocate for women of African Descent as they support their families and communities. With its 38 national affiliates and more than 200 sections in 32 states, NCNW has an outreach to nearly 3 million women.

Queens County Section was organized on May 13, 1987 by the late Reva M. Anthony based on a growing need for community based programs in Southeast Queens. Some of our local programs are: Clothing giveaway, after-school tutorial program, health & wellness, cultural events, voters registration drives, distribution of Thanksgiving baskets and economic empowerment forums. Our Annual Harambee Luncheon provides an opportunity for the organization to recognize outstanding youth for their academic excellence and community service contributions.

The 31st Annual Awards Banquet provides a platform for the Queens County Section to recognize women and men for their exceptional professional contribution and commitment to serving their communities. The selected honorees represent the ideals and mission of our founder Mary McLeod Bethune and our late great icon leader Dr. Dorothy Irene Height. The 2018 distinquished honorees are:
