About this event

Thursday Evening Canicross/Dog Powered Running Group

Come join us for our weekly Canicross group run on Thursday evenings at the Old Reedy Creek Road Trailhead! Grab your furry running buddy and hit the trails with fellow dog lovers. Canicross is a great way to bond with your pup, meet new friends, and get some exercise in a fun and social setting. All fitness levels are welcome, so whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, you'll have a blast running with your four-legged friend. Don't miss out on this paws-itively awesome event!

*We run a singletrack loop starting on the Lake Trail when it's open, and the multiuse trail into Umstead when it's not, If you Bikejor, you'll love the multiuse trails.

What you need to know:

  • We are a No-Drop Group. We have a runner in front and back of the pack, so don't worry about being left behind. We will hike with you!

  • As a general rule, please respect all dogs' space during canicross, and no on-leash, nose to nose greetings. This is not an event for dogs to be social with others, please keep space between your dog and the dog in front of you, and annouce if you're going to be passing. This is a reactive dog friendly group.

  • Gear: A Waist belt, bungee leash, and y-front harness are all you need to get started. We have extra harnesses/belts/bungee lines to try, and can help with fitting equipment before you puchase too!

  • When the trails are dry, we will be on the Lake Trail (single-track mtb trails along the lake). When trails are wet/closed we will be on the unpaved multiuse trail going into Umstead. Both trailheads are accessible from the same parking lot.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

The Old Reedy Creek Trailhead is a Paved parking area with restrooms and water fountains. Park there and you'll see us!

What gear do I need?

A Waist belt, bungee leash, and y-front harness are all you need to get started. We have various sizes of long and short harnesses, spare belts, and bungees to try! So you don't have to have any special gear to try it!

What's the weather policy?

We don't run in thunder, and if it's over 85 degrees, we may cancel or shorten the distance in order to avoid heat stress in the dogs.
