Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Walking up hills, in grass, and on uneven surfaces will be necessary. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Be sure to dress in clothing that you can move in comfortably, and that is weather-appropriate. (it's North Carolina, so who knows what the weather will be!)

How can I prepare for this event?

We strongly recommend downloading the Merlin Bird app before arriving, as it is an incredibly valuable resource, but service can be spotty in the area. You can find the app on the app store or at this link: https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/download/

Do I need to bring anything?

Recommended items: A bottle of water, lunch/snacks, sunscreen, binoculars, and a bird field guide. We will have extra sets of binoculars and field guides for those who don't have them.

I'd like to invest in a pair of binoculars, are there any you recommend?

If you want to invest in a pair of binoculars, here is a great entry-level set: https://tasco.com/binoculars/essentials-8x42-binocular/ The Audobon website has a more extensive list of options if you'd like to see more options: https://audubon.org/news/category-get-game

Will there be accessible restrooms?

Restrooms are located in a facility near the parking lot
