Participants will gain insights into the nature of TBIs resulting from intimate partner violence, exploring screening methods and strategies for providing effective support.
Attendees will discuss and learn:
- Understanding Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of TBIs, including their definition, causes, and resulting impairments in cognitive, physical, behavioral, and emotional functioning. Emphasis will be placed on distinguishing TBIs from other brain-related conditions and understanding the range of functional disabilities they may cause.
- Relationship Violence and TBIs: The training delves into the dynamics of relationship violence, particularly intimate partner violence, as a leading cause of TBIs, especially among women. Participants will explore the complex interplay between abuse dynamics and brain injuries, highlighting the unique challenges faced by victims in recognizing and addressing TBIs.
- Screening Methods: Methods for identifying TBIs in victims of relationship violence will be discussed, including both formal screening tools and informal assessment techniques. Participants will learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of TBIs, even in cases where physical injuries may not be immediately apparent.
- Providing Support: Strategies for offering comprehensive support to victims of relationship violence with TBIs will be explored. This includes addressing immediate safety concerns, navigating healthcare systems for appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and fostering long-term recovery and psychosocial adjustment.
Overall, this training equips care professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively identify and support individuals experiencing TBIs as a result of relationship violence, promoting holistic healing and empowerment.
