This engaging, 2 hour webinar provides an overview and exploration of the ethical and legal landscape surrounding clinical supervision. Emphasizing the importance of ethical integrity, diversity, and risk management, this workshop equips supervisors with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate some of the complex ethical dilemmas often encountered and promote professional excellence in supervision.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Describe the ethical and legal responsibilities of supervisors
  • Discuss the role and impact of diversity in the supervisory relationship
  • Explore ethical obligations of supervisors to their supervisees and to the profession including avoiding exploitation, practicing gatekeeping, dual relationships, and confidentiality
  • Reflect on vicarious liability and identify 3 steps to mitigate risk

About the Presenter

Dr. Staci Born, EdD, LMFT (MN, SD), RPT-S, is owner and founder of The Blue Couch, LLC – a private practice and consulting agency located in Mankato, MN and Sioux Falls, SD. Here, she provides individual and play therapy, supervision, and professional consultation. Previously, she was a professor in counseling, teaching courses in counseling and play therapy for more than 10 years. Dr. Born has successfully published 8 articles in peer-reviewed journals, edited a textbook, authored two book chapters, and has collaborated on 12 funded grants totaling more than $2.6 million in support of service, education, and research promoting children’s mental health in the US. Her interests focus on self-compassion and children’s mental health. Further, as a sought-after local and regional speaker, she has experience teaching and presenting in-person and online to broad professional audiences and communities.

The Counseling and Human Resource Development program at South Dakota State University has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Prover, ACEP No. 4142.
