Cuyamaca Peak Hike (Descanso, CA)

Nature Unplugged Club Hike—San Diego (May) | Nature Unplugged Club hikes and events are a time to get together with old friends and make new ones. It’s a time to unplug from our devices, breathe in the fresh air and connect with the world around us. We’re committed to creating a community that values time outside, together—and that’s why we host these free, organized monthly hikes and events around San Diego.

While these hikes are offered at no cost, we do require registration. Your registration lets us know you're coming so that we can look for you at the trailhead. In advance of the hike, we'll also send you an email with helpful information including things like directions, parking tips, the weather outlook and what to bring.

Cuyamaca Peak via Azalea Glen Loop

Join us on this 7.4-mile loop trail near Descanso, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 4 hours to complete.

This excursion to the top of the Cuyamaca Peek will begin on Azelea loop through a dense and beautiful forest, connecting to Conejos Trail via a fire road. Conejos trails follows the ridgeback of Cuyamaca—meandering around fallen oak trees and onto a granite rock trail.

The views this hike affords are fantastic, both to the East Mountains and west low-lying valleys. Be sure to bring some binoculars, on a clear day the views from the second-highest peak in San Diego County are spectacular!
