Nature Revive

A day of exploration, connection, and rejuvenation.

Winter is a time of deep reflection and contemplation. It is a time to rug up, get outdoors and face the elements. We would like to invite you to walk together, connect with nature and explore what winter means for you as we contemplate the bigger picture.

The day begins with a three-hour Deep Time Walk - a fascinating 4.6km journey through the 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history. You will learn about how our wonderful planet transformed from a ball of lava to the beautiful home we all share today.

We will then lunch together at Diggers Veggie Kitchen, nourishing body and mind while reflecting on the morning’s experience. Lunch, dessert and a hot drink are included.

For the remainder of the day we will deepen our appreciation and sense of awe for our natural world, with a session in Nature Based Therapy.

Highlights

  • Reconnect with nature and rekindle your sense of awe.
  • Grasp the real meaning of 4,600,000,000 years, the age of our home, and put its history into perspective.
  • Learn about the Gaia hypothesis of a self-regulating planet, and the inseparable nature of the living and non-living components, plus terms such as ‘fossil fuels’, ‘mass extinction’ and ‘anthropocene’. .
  • Engage in the practice of nature based therapy learning how to connect to your senses through nature based mindfulness and take away a teaching through nature journaling.

About Deep Time Walks

A Deep Time Walk is a transformative journey through 4.6bn years of Earth history via a 4.6km guided walk. It is an invitation to view the world differently, encouraging positive action and advocacy for a regenerative Earth.

At various intervals along the walk the guide will point out significant developments from the perspective of physics, chemistry, philosophy, biology, history and ecology.

Our brains are unable to compute the meaning of 4,600,000,000 years, but distance is a powerful tool to help us comprehend this vast time scale.

A Deep Time Walk is storytelling through walking, it is a learning journey through our body, mind and soul, and a beautiful way to tell the story of life. Part history lesson, part mindfulness session this walk is all about stepping out of our lives and seeing The Biggest Picture.

Deep Time Walks were developed by Stephan Harding and Sergio Maraschin at the Schumacher College in the UK. More information is available here www.deeptimewalk.org/.

About Nature Based Therapy

Nature Based Therapy uses nature as a tool to promote health and is based on the therapeutic use of sensory experiences which incorporates nature bathing, journaling, creative arts, holistic counselling, nature-based diet, Indigenous philosophy, holistic health education and self-care into clinical settings that greatly benefit clients.

There is a growing amount of evidence based research that suggests Nature Based Therapy has proven to be beneficial treatment modality for anxiety, depression, stress and other mental health disorders.

Nature is a powerful healing resource that can be used to restore well-being. Since the time of industrialization, humans have lost their connection to their natural surroundings. Nature Based Therapy also understands that the state of the natural environment is close to our internal psychological state and therefore connects ecology with psychology.

By enabling people to reconnect with nature and experience its beauty, a sense of belongingness emerges, and life becomes more meaningful. More information is available here Home - Nature Based Therapy.

Testimonials:

“Very interesting and engaging. Tammy’s passion for the topic really shone through as she was discussing the origins of our planet. Also the walk itself is very pleasant along the sea front. Would strongly recommend. Very interactive rather than a lecture which meant the afternoon flew by.” Adam

“Kit – again I just wanted to say after many many years of doing workshops, today was the best. So professional, informative and so thoughtfully presented. Love the plant, colouring book, crayons – the Nurture Nature Cards and everything that you have so obviously taken much time and love in putting it all together. Truly an inspiring and beautiful day … thank you!!” Chelle
