About this event

PURPOSE

Beginning in 2021, Amah Mutsun Land Trust (AMLT) initiated a project to grow 135,000 native plants for seed production at Cascade Ranch on Año Nuevo Point. The seeds produced will be used to restore and steward biodiverse and culturally important coastal prairie vegetation communities at Quiroste Valley Cultural Preserve nearby. We have planted over 130,000 native plants in 45 beds at Cascade, and AMLT staff and our AMLT Volunteer Team work together to propagate and tend the native plants.

We are now reaching the time of year when many native plants are producing seed abundantly, and we are seeking help from additional volunteers to harvest seed and to tend the beds of native plants through weeding, spreading mulch, and other related tasks. We invite you to join us to help with this work. This will also be an opportunity to and to learn a bit about the work of AMLT and the native plants we are working with.

DETAILS

Location:

Cascade Ranch, 3100 Cabrillo Hwy., Pescadero

Agenda:

12:30 PM - 1:15 PM - Arrival and orientation.

1:15 PM - 4:45 PM - Harvesting seed and tending native plant beds.

4:45 PM - 5:00 PM - Clean up and depart.

Important Notes:

  • Please plan ahead and make an effort to arrive a few minutes before 12:30 PM, and not to arrive late! We will have an orientation and information sharing session at the beginning of the event, and if you are late you will miss part or all of this.
  • Please only register to attend the event if you are committed to attending and able to participate for the entire duration of the event. Event capacity is limited, and the event will be filled to capacity. If someone registers who then does not attend, or is only able to participate for part of the event, it will prevent someone who could have participated for the entire time from joining us, and we won't be able to accomplish as much as we could have otherwise.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate minors under 16 years of age or pets.

Previous experience is not necessary. We will show you how to do the work, and we will provide tools and materials.

This work may involve kneeling, sitting on the ground, bending over, and carrying up to around 25 pounds of weight.

What to bring:

  • Clean work gloves (if you have them, we can provide gloves if you don't)
  • Water bottle and water
  • A shirt with long sleeves
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Sturdy work boots or closed-toed shoes
  • Snacks or personal lunch if preferred

After you register, we will follow up to confirm and share any additional information a day or two before the event.
