Exploring and Applying Surface Water Modeling Tools to Achieve Program Goals

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Water Modeling Group is sponsoring a National Surface Water Modeling Training Workshop in Dallas, Texas.

When is the workshop?

The workshop will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, October 29 and conclude at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 1. A pre-workshop training will be offered on Monday, October 28 from 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm. Please see the agenda for more details.

Who should attend?

The workshop is for water quality and watershed modeling practitioners and others working for states, tribes, territories, or U.S. EPA who are interested in surface water modeling and its applications in Clean Water Act programs.

What are the workshop objectives?

The 2019 National Surface Water Modeling Workshop will bring together professionals interested in water quality modeling in a face-to-face setting where they can:

  • Learn water modeling basics and explore advanced concepts through presentations and discussions
  • Gain hands-on water modeling experience
  • Collaborate and share ideas with other water modeling practitioners and managers of programs that implement water modeling results.

Please note that specific topics within plenary and breakout session tracks and speakers are subject to change. A final agenda will be posted approximately two months prior to the workshop.

The workshop will be held at the U.S. EPA Region 6 headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

Which hotel is recommended for workshop participants?

Overnight rooms are available at the Homewood Suites Dallas Downtown at 1025 Elm Street ( The workshop rate is $157 per night (or the prevailing per diem rate at the time) exclusive of state and local taxes, which are currently at 15.26%.This rate includes a complimentary hot full breakfast buffet, offered 7 days a week and an evening reception with food & drinks offered Monday-Thursday 5pm-7pm

To reserve your room, call the hotel's front desk at 214-748-4000 and reference the EPA Water Modeling Training Workshop. The cutoff date for the room block is October 7, 2019. Reservations requested after this date will be on a space available basis and at the hotel’s best available rate at the time the request is received.

How do I register for the breakout session track that I want?

Step 1: Click the green REGISTER button at the top right of this site.

Step 2: PRE-WORKSHOP TRAINING. Select the Monday pre-workshop hands-on training only if you plan to attend.

Step 3: Choose ONE BREAK-OUT SESSION TRACK. Select only ONE breakout session track for the workshop. Each break-out session track runs across all three days and are as follows: 1) HSPF Hands-On Training Track; 2) WASP Hands-On Training Track; 3) Model Overview Track; or 4) Model Managers Track. When you select a track, you will stay in that track each afternoon for the duration of the workshop. [Note: If you select more than one break-out track, a workshop coordinator will contact you to select your preferred track and revise your registration.]

The HSPF and WASP hands-on training break-out tracks are limited to 30 participants and will require you to bring your own laptop. You'll receive an email from workshop organizers with the information you'll need for these training tracks.
