Join us for National River Cleanup Day! This year marks the 34th anniversary of National River Cleanup Day and we'd love your help picking up litter from the roads and trails around the Environmental Education Center (EEC) to help keep our waterways and wetlands clean!

Please note, volunteers under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Other Considerations:

  • Driving Directions: We recommend using Google Maps and mapping to the "Environmental Education Center (EEC)" or 1751 Grand Blvd, Alviso, CA 95002.
  • If you need any accommodations or would like to know more about volunteer hours, please don't hesitate to reach out to watershedwatchers@sfbayws.org.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, long pants, sun protection and layers, and closed-toe shoes - all that you don't mind getting dirty! We will provide gloves and all other tools and supplies for this event.
  • Restrooms will be available on-site in the form of an ADA-compliant portable toilet and hand-washing station.
  • Please note that dogs are not allowed at this unit of the Refuge.
  • Snacks will be provided!

Containing almost 30,000 acres of estuarine habitat, uplands, open water, mudflats, salt ponds, and salt marshes, including much of southern San Francisco Bay, Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for many wildlife.  Its purpose is to protect wildlife habitat for endangered species and migratory birds, and to offer opportunities for nature study. The Visitor Center and Nature Store in Fremont, is open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is part of the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex and is administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Friends group supporting the education, interpretation, and research activities of San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuges.
