    Pianist Joe Warner is one of the Bay Area’s brightest young talents. He has performed as the pianist and musical director for legendary vocalist The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol for over 10 years, leads the Joe Warner Trio, and has also performed or recorded with Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, Azar Lawrence, Mistah F.A.B., Mary Stallings, Steve Turre, Robert Randolph, Kenny Washington, Marcus Shelby Orchestra, Johnny Talbot, Stephanie Crawford, Elena Pinderhughes, Roy McCurdy, Marvin 'Smitty' Smith, Lenny White, Casey Benjamin, Dennis Chambers, Bernard Purdie, The California Honeydrops, Willie Jones III, Jules Broussard, Freddie Hughes, Derick Hughes, Martin Luther, Jesus Diaz, John Santos, Oakland Symphony, Rickey Woodard, John Handy, Craig Handy, Valerie Troutt, and Denise Perrier, among others.

    Oakland born and raised, saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Nathan Nakadegawa-Lee currently attends the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, where he is pursuing a BFA in Jazz Performance. He has studied with Melissa Aldana, Darius Jones, Tivon Pennicot, David Glasser, Or Bareket, Jon Irabagon, Anat Cohen, Joshua Rubin, and Ismail Lumaneovsky. In Oakland, Nathan has taught at Oakland Summer Music, Oakland Public Conservatory, and his alma mater Claremont Middle School, providing music education at no cost to middle schoolers. He has performed at the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland with the Derek Lewis group, and more recently at The Stone in New York with Sebastian Selendis Alexander Johnson. Nathan continues to compose, improvise, and perform in New York City and the Bay Area.

    Tickets are $20 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.

    Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.

    Local musician Sam Rudin owns and operates The Back Room in downtown Berkeley, which honors his vision to recreate the cozy ambience of the original Freight & Salvage. Rudin describes his venture as a small space (100 people max), with great acoustics and comfortable seating, that showcases the musicians with respect and appreciation.
