Dementia Friendly Guernsey in association with NAPA (National Activity Providers Association) will be running x2 one day courses for local health care professionals this July.


On Tuesday 9th July, the one day course is titled; Activities for People Living with Dementia The aim of this course is to equip all staff involved in planning, providing, and evaluating activities for individuals living with dementia with the necessary knowledge, skills, and strategies to create meaningful and engaging experiences that enhance quality of life and wellbeing.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the importance of activities in promoting wellbeing and quality of life for individuals living with dementia.

2. Identify the unique needs, preferences, and abilities of individuals living with dementia in relation to activity and engagement.

3. Develop and implement person-centred activity plans adapted to the individual needs and interests of people living with dementia.

4. Utilise effective communication techniques to engage individuals with dementia in activities and enhance their participation.

5. Recognise and address common challenges and barriers to activity engagement for individuals with dementia.


On Wednesday 10th July, the course is titled; The importance of activity and engagement, including the whole home approach This course provides you with the opportunity to reflect on the value and importance of activities and consider best practice approaches.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the training day participants will be able to:

Explain the value and importance of activities

Describe how to integrate activity into everyday care

Explore how individual and group wellbeing can be enhanced if the whole home are fully involved in an activity-based model of care.


Important information:

Both courses take place at Les Cotils,10am - 4pm and each cost £35 per person. Lunch is included. 30 places are available for each course and will be led by a qualifed NAPA trainer.
