My Palette: Above and Beyond celebrates not only art but also the rich cultural fusion of art, heritage, and community in the Hampton Roads area. For the past decade, the local Korean community represented in this exhibition, united by a shared passion for artistic expression and cultural preservation, has come together to explore and create a variety of artworks, including Korean-themed crafts and paintings, while also deepening their understanding of Korean culture. Rooted in the Korean church, this vibrant group has embraced art as both a means of creative expression and a way to honor and preserve their cultural heritage.

When they first moved here, many in the community didn’t know they could learn art in their own language. Today, they not only love creating art, but also feel a deeper connection to their lives here. Art has brought them joy and a stronger sense of engagement with their present lives. What began as a small touch on a palette has grown into an enriching experience, offering them new opportunities to live happily and embrace their expanded experiences.

My Palette: Above and Beyond represents more than just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of the collective spirit of a community bound by love, passion, and a shared dream. It’s an opportunity where art, culture, and personal connections flourish—where creativity is nurtured and celebrated through heartfelt conversation.

The exhibition will be on display May 21-31, 2025, with a closing reception on 5/31/25 from 1-3pm. Come and celebrate the art with the artists! Free and open to the public. Light refreshments served.
