Join us for an exclusive book launch and interactive workshop exploring My Name Is, a groundbreaking project by Dr. Javeria Khadija Shah that delves into the power of names, identity, and lived experiences. Through personal narratives, research, and creative storytelling, this project sheds light on the intersections of heritage, social justice, and self-definition.

This event will also highlight the success of the My Name Is documentary, which has won multiple international short film festivals, further amplifying the global conversation around identity and belonging.

The session will feature a discussion on the themes of the book, a participatory workshop, and a Q&A with Dr. Shah. It is an unmissable opportunity for educators, creatives, and change-makers passionate about inclusion, representation, and the impact of names.


Bio

Dr. Javeria Khadija Shah is a globally recognized educationalist, cultural sociologist, and interdisciplinary scholar whose work spans policy, media education, sociology, and the visual arts. She is a Member of the Principal’s Office and the Associate Director of the Centre for Inclusive Pedagogy and Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London.
As the Principal Investigator of My Name Is, Dr. Shah leads a groundbreaking project that explores the significance of names in shaping personal and collective identities. This initiative, which has now evolved into both a book and an internationally acclaimed documentary, has won multiple awards at global short film festivals, sparking vital conversations on representation, belonging, and self-definition. From 2018 to 2025, Dr. Shah was the Founding Director of the Social Performance Network. Alongside My Name Is, Dr. Shah is the founder of The Hidden Thread, a project that extends her research into identity and heritage, uncovering the interconnected narratives that shape our lives.

This event is hosted by the QMU LEAD Centre. QMU students and staff and external colleagues are welcome to attend and to join us for refreshments and book signing between 5-6pm.
