BESPOKE and art case STEINWAYS have been designed and crafted in every conceivable style, utilizing a wide range of precious stones, exotic woods, gold painting and gilding, hand-painted artwork and more.

In keeping with this tradition, STEINWAY continues to offer a BESPOKE service: designs, big or small, can be custom-built in any size model STEINWAY.

PLUS, the new Spirio high-definition player piano from Steinway & Sons offers in-home acoustic entertainment options never before available.

About Robert Polan

Rob Polan brings his passion for craftsmanship and design to his role as Vice President of Custom Pianos at Steinway & Sons, a position he has held since 2016. With a focus on the heritage of Steinway's specialty pianos dating back to 1853, Rob's work involves the creative oversight of bespoke and limited edition pianos. His collaborations with esteemed designers such as Lenny Kravitz, Luca Nichetto, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Neri & Hu, Elena Salmistraro, and Dakota Jackson, serve to blend the realms of music and interior design.

At Steinway, Rob and his team of artisans and craftspeople apply their skills in gilding, wood carving, stonework, wood inlay, marquetry, and painting, among other art forms, to produce pianos that are not only instruments but also unique works of art. The team is dedicated to sourcing exceptional materials from across the globe to ensure that each piano they create is a reflection of the company's commitment to beauty, quality, and the joy of music.

Top 6 reasons to include a Steinway & Sons Spirio high-definition player piano in your next design:

  1. Elegance and Style: A Steinway piano, for instance, is not just a musical instrument; it’s a masterpiece of craftsmanship and an expression of timeless elegance. Its presence adds sophistication and style to any space.
  2. Customization: Steinway collaborates with interior designers to create one-of-a-kind pianos that match the vision of their clients’ homes. These custom pianos can be tailored to unique colors, finishes, and even Pantone swatches. Whether it’s a subtle difference or an eye-catching statement, designers can design a piano that perfectly suits the space1.
  3. Focal Point: A well-placed player piano can serve as a striking focal point in a room. Its presence draws attention and becomes a conversation starter, enhancing the overall design aesthetic.
  4. Sound and Ambiance: Beyond aesthetics, player pianos contribute to the acoustic ambiance of a space. Imagine a beautifully designed room with soft piano melodies filling the air. It creates a sense of warmth and comfort.
  5. Versatility: Player pianos can be seamlessly integrated into various design styles, from traditional to contemporary. They adapt to the overall theme and enhance the overall sensory experience.
  6. Statement Piece: Designers often seek unique elements that make a statement. A customized player piano can be that signature piece that elevates the entire design concept.

In summary, player pianos blend art, music, and design, making them a valuable addition to any designer’s toolkit. Whether it’s a residential project, a boutique hotel, or a high-end restaurant, a thoughtfully placed player piano can enhance the overall ambiance and leave a lasting impression.
