Join a teaching artist from Central Florida Vocal Arts as we explore the role that music can play in creating a joyful life for EVERYONE. No previous musical experience is needed. The five-part class meets weekly and will explore using our own voice, embracing our unique musical gifts, listening with intention and enhancing mental wellness through integrating music into daily activities.

This program is presented by Central Florida Vocal Arts and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.

About the Presenter:

Rebekah Piatt is just a small-town girl from rural Ohio living in Winter Park where she owns and operates A Noteworthy Music Studio. There, she and her staff of five teachers, provide private music lessons and small group classes to clients regardless of their age or quirks. Rebekah believes strongly that music is the tie that binds us together as humans, and that is has immense healing potential when applied to individuals and groups.

She is passionate about teaching, performing, music directing, and Music Therapy. Her main goal as a teacher is to empower her clients to explore their creativity while meeting their social, emotional, and therapeutic goals. Drawing on her decades of experience teaching and her Music Therapy training at Nemours Children’s Hospital, she strives to make clients feel heard and valued, have fun, and gain confidence through music!

She recently started offering adaptive music lessons for neurodiverse students with Trisomy 33 and ASD as well as physically exceptional students including wheelchair users and those with medical complexities. She is comfortable playing and teaching guitar, piano, voice, ukulele, and basic drum kit. She also plays singing bowls and does guided meditation sound baths.

Rebekah has a BA in Vocal Music (2012) and MA in Counseling from Morehead State University (2021). She has all three levels of certification in Commercial Contemporary Music from Shenandoah University (2016). She headed back to school Fall 2021 at Saint Mary of the Woods College and will be a Board-Certified Music Therapist with a specialty in medically complex cases and trauma-informed care in the Spring of 2024.

Rebekah is a cat lady and dog mom who is fanatical about animal rescue (and The Beatles). PennyLane is the retired therapy shopdog commonly seen collecting belly scratches at the studio. EllaRigby, Lucy in the Sky, and Sgt. Pepper are her three luxurious long-hair rescue kitties lovingly referred to as “The Disaster Cats”. In addition to her pets, she is a passionate plant mama, collecting and caring for over 200 tropical plants both at home and at the studio.

Central Florida Vocal Arts is a non-profit music advocacy organization dedicated to providing the highest quality training to young artists, while also providing performance opportunities to currently emerging artists of all ages. We are creating a continuing life cycle for the vocal arts in Central Florida through a three-step model. The first step, Education and Training, introduces young artists to the arts. Through our educational initiatives, we develop students’ talent, passion, and confidence. Next, our Mainstage Productions provide a transition period for students ages 8-18 and pre-professional adults to emerge on stage alongside local professional artists. Our life cycle culminates with Opera del Sol, offering innovative productions in unexpected places and challenging perceptions of who the operatic performer and audience members are and what defines the genre as a whole.
