If you have ever seen a mushroom growing & have asked yourself any of these questions & would like some answers, then this mushroom identification certification course is for you.


During this course, you will learn how to confidently identify 16 different mushroom species. We cover common edible, medicinal, and poisonous mushroom species. We will show you the specific details to look out for to know the difference between mushrooms that are safe to eat as compared to their un-safe, poisonous look-alikes.


This mushroom identification certification course will teach you the simple tools you will need to positively identify mushrooms and is designed for all competency levels. You will learn about the foundational mushroom identification knowledge that is essential for beginners & also serves as a useful re-cap for the more advanced mushroom lovers among us.

In this class you will be introduced to the world of wild mushroom identification. The class will cover the following topics:

Orientation: overview of the course, attendance & final exam requirements to earn certification.

How to stay safe while wild foraging for mushrooms,

Mushroom field guides & ID keys,

Recommended ID gear to speed up the learning process,


CLASS 2

Intro: Tips & Tools for ID + Q&A Part II

Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm (HST) | ONLINE

Where & when to find wild mushrooms,

How the surrounding environment can help you to ID mushrooms,

What mushroom features to look for in order to ID poisonous mushrooms.

Mushroom Identification + Q&A

In this class you will learn how to confidently identify the following 4 kinds of edible & medicinal mushrooms:

Wood Ears (Auricularia species),

Snow Fungus (Tremella fuciformis),

Southern Bracket (Ganoderma australe),

Mustard Yellow Polypore (Fuscoporia gilva).

Gemmed Puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum),

Abalone Oyster (Pleurotus cystidiosus),

Paddy Straw Mushroom (Volvariella volvacea),

CLASS 6

Poisonous Mushroom Identification + Q&A

Wednesday, October 9th, 2024, from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm (HST) | ONLINE

In this class you will learn how to confidently identify the following 5 species of poisonous mushrooms:

Death Caps (deadly Amanita species),

Green-spored Parasol (Chlorophyllum molybdites),

Sulfur Tuft (Hypholoma fasciculare),

Flowerpot Parasol (Leucocoprinus birnbaumii),

Class includes a Questions-and-Answers section with the instructor.


Final Exam emailed & to be completed on your own time with a deadline for submission in order to earn the Wild Mushroom Identification Certificate.

Chase has been growing mushrooms & researching fungi since 2004 & has successfully implemented many different mushroom growing techniques. He is certified in wild mushroom foraging food safety & leads wild mushroom ID walks in his community. Chase publishes mushroom articles in Fungi Magazine.
