Part 1: Introduction and Reading10 AM - 12 PMPart 2: Scenario Presentation and Studio Time2 PM – 5 PMThis workshop aims to use Rafael Domenech’s exhibition The Medium is theMassage as an invitation to local artists and students to explore the ways inwhich writing can be generative to production of artworks.The premise is counterintuitive: Instead of producing objects and then writingabout them, what if one shaped fictional, worldbuilding narratives that in turnimmanently suggest forms. One can think of the way that certain sci-fi stories notonly present uncanny objects, but open a space of possibility. Some artists whomay point in this direction are Etel Adnan, Bjorn Mergard, BernadetteCorporation, and Dennis Balk.A﻿BOUT Established in 2008, [NAME] Publications is a non-profit press based in Miami,Florida co-directed by Gean Moreno and Natalia Zuluaga. In addition to its ownedited volumes, which we have curated with leading artists, scholars, anddesigners, we have also worked closely with curators and institutions on avariety of editorial, archival, and research projects. Our practice proposes anexpanded notion of publishing that includes curating, editing, researching, andwriting and challenges the conventions of exhibition catalogues. Over the years,our partners have grown to include many esteemed cultural institutions, such asthe De Appel, Kunsthalle Zurich, INSTAR, El Museo del Barrio, Visual AIDS,Contemporary Art Museum Houston, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, TheCisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, the Jorge and Darlene Pérez Collection, andVerso.
