This event is hosted by Professor Kypros Nicolaides of The Fetal Medicine Research Centre in London with guest speakers.All guest speakers are sharing their varied experience supporting women and families in maternity services and during the neonatal period.This event is aimed at students, and health care professionals within maternity as well as doulas, birthworkers, and families alike. A twin mum herself and somebody who supports many twin and multiple families, Sarah is acutely aware of improvements that could be made to care. These changes can only be implemented through knowledge from learned professionals who have dedicated their lives to research into various areas that benefit twins and multiples. Sarah’s talk will be beneficial to anyone who works in maternity care, medicine, advocacy, social care and education. She has created a fund for the benefit of families expecting twins or multiples to be able to access care if they are on a low income or from an under-represented community.Professor Kypros Nicolaides - Fetal Medicine Researcher Kypros will provide a lesson on the different types of twins, the different chorionicities, their associated complications and how these differences impact the type of monitoring and care pathways that should be offered to women, emphasis on the “offered”. He preaches on the importance of good monitoring and continuity, thorough screening protocol by experienced and or specialised professionals in multiple pregnancy. Professor Enrico Lopriore - NeonatologistHead of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in Netherlands, Professor Enrico will be impressing upon us the importance of long-term follow-up, especially for monochorionic twins and the necessity for high quality beneficial testing.Marley Hall - MidwifeMarley discusses the importance of respecting a mother’s intuition, autonomous choice and capacity for informed decision-making as regards her and her babies’ health. A midwife of 14 years and a hypnobirthing instructor, author and mother of 5 including twins, Marley knows from both clinical practice and personal experience how vital, supporting the mother’s decision is, for safety, for working relationships and for fostering mutual respect.Dr Kathryn Stagg - International Board Certified Lactation ConsultantKathryn is a Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers and was proud to be the 2017 winner of the ABM’s Pam’s Prize, celebrating Breastfeeding Counsellor’s and all the support they give. She is founder of Breastfeeding Twins and Triplets UK.
