Multiple Formats: Contemporary Art Book Symposium and Art Book FairMarch 16–18, 2023 at Boston University, School of Visual Arts<a href="https://multipleformats.cargo.site" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Multiple Formats: Contemporary Art Book Symposium</a> weaves together conversations about artist books and higher education, pedagogical practices involving artist books, artist advocacy, and artist book distribution, collection, and access. Intended to be an elastic and inclusive forum for discussions about artist book publishing, Multiple Formats pays particular attention to publishing by graphic designers, the use and creation of artist books in visual arts programs, publishing as a personal and collaborative process, and other topics of interest.The goal of Multiple Formats is to build community and strengthen creative networks, create a hub for research and sharing of work, and platform substantive discussion about sustainable creative practices that include artist books.The 2023 edition of Multiple Formats includes a day of talks, lectures, and presentations on Friday, March 17, followed by an artist book fair on Saturday, March 18. This year’s keynote speaker, Nontsikelelo Mutiti, co-founder of Black Chalk &amp; Co. and Director of Graduate Studies in Graphic Design at Yale University, will kick off the symposium with an evening lecture on Thursday, March 16.Multiple Formats offers a mix of scholarship and reflection, coupled with the opportunity to examine artist books and support publishers and artists making books. Events are intended to benefit students, faculty, artists, librarians, collectors, and scholars in Boston and beyond.All talks and panels are free and open to the public.Registration does not guarantee a seat. Seats will be first come, first serve for Thursday&#x27;s keynote and Friday&#x27;s panel presentations.The book fair features over 100 exhibitors and has free admission, and is open to all ages.Boston University encourages all visitors to be fully vaccinated and to wear a face mask when indoors.
