Mullein Torch Making Workshop

Mullein Torch Making Workshop

Xa Kako Dile:Caspar, CA
Saturday, Apr 25 from 12:30 pm to 3 pm
Overview

Join us for an afternoon celebrating the functionality, lore, and magic of the mullein stalk.

Historically, the tall flowering stalks of mullein were dipped in tallow, suet, or wax to create slow-burning torches used for illumination, ceremonies, and funeral processions. Known by evocative names such as “Hag’s Taper” and “Jupiter’s Rod,” mullein torches have been used since ancient Roman times. Because of their versatility, they have served both practical purposes and roles in magical and protective traditions.

The Mendocino Coast Herb Guild invites you to the beautiful medicine garden at Xa Kako Dile for a hands-on afternoon of mullein torch making. Participants will create their own mullein torch to take home—perfect for celebrating Beltane and the Summer Solstice.

Bring your summer intentions, along with any special dried herbs or flowers you would like to incorporate into your torch.

This workshop will include:

  • Hands-on mullein torch making
  • Tips for embellishing and personalizing your torch
  • Guidance on how to make your own mullein torches at home
  • Stories and history of the mullein torch tradition
  • Discussion of ritual, ceremonial, and practical uses

All net proceeds from this workshop will support future activities of the Mendocino Coast Herb Guild and the medicine garden at Xa Kako Dile.

Come craft, learn, and connect with the seasonal magic of mullein.
