Mudflat Creatures
Use microscopes to observe marine invertebrates that live in our mudflats and provide food for our shorebirds.
Candlestick Point SRA includes some of the last remaining mudflats in San Francisco. Mudflat Creatures will provide an opportunity to observe the critters we find in different soil samples taken from the coves throughout Candlestick, such as copepods, fairy shrimp, and amphipods. We'll show you how to use handheld microscopes to view these animals up close and discuss how crucial they are to our ecosystem. This is a drop-in program, rather than formal instruction, so you're free to come and go as you like.
