A partnership between Oregon State University and University of Oregon, TDI unites researchers from top U.S.wood products,engineeringandsustainable designprograms as one of the nation's first and only interdisciplinary research collaboratives focusing on the advancement of mass timber and structural wood products building solutions. TDI's primary activities, which include a wide range oftesting,state-of-the-art timber research, andeducation, are reinforced by diverse faculty expertise, cutting-edge facilities and dynamic partnerships with manufacturers, designers and other stakeholders.

A.A Red Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory

The TallWood Design Institute is hosting an "Open House" at our A.A. "Red" Emmerson Lab at Oregon State University. We will be hosting a tour of the first prototype of our mass ply panel house.The house is two-stories with two bedrooms (around 760 sf) and was designed to serve as "cottage clusters" and Accessory Dwelling Units. The house is built almost entirely from 2 and 3 inch prefabricated mass plywood panels. Mass plywood panels allow for precise prefabrication and can be "flat-packed", shipped to a site and quickly assembled, to make a thermally and seismically resilient house.Join us for a first-hand walkthrough of the house prototype and learn about plans for the next phase of research.Project Leads: University of Oregon Department of Architecture Faculty: Judith Sheine, Mark Fretz, Jason StensonThis project is funded by EDA BBBRC Project Award Number 07-79-07906
