Join the Online News Association and the News Product Alliance for a meetup on how to move to a newsroom product role from other positions within a news organization. At this event you’ll hear from others who have made this move, learn some ways to apply your newroom experience to a product role, and meet up with other product-minded newsroom pros. Expect to leave with some ideas about how to position yourself for a new role, plus new professional opportunities, peers, mentors and colleagues, and inspiration for a collaboration or partnership.

This event will be participatory — not a webinar — so expect to have the chance to contribute to the conversation throughout the time we’re together. We'll start with a fireside chat with Mandy Jenkins, Head of Product at Factal, and Tony Elkins, Product Director at Gannett, both of whom recently moved into formal product roles, about their career trajectories, and then have a group discussion/Q&A followed by breakout rooms for more networking.

Where will the meetup take place?

This event will be hosted on Zoom. For this particular event, you’ll have the best experience if you join via the Zoom app on a desktop or laptop computer so that you can see more participants in the gallery view.

You can also join using the mobile app and take advantage of the breakout rooms, although the number of participants you can see at one time may be more limited.

Can I dial in by phone?

We don’t recommend joining by phone dial-in, if possible, so that you can see all the breakout room options and contribute to the conversation more easily. If you’re unfamiliar with Zoom, we’ll give a quick introduction in the beginning of the call and have staff on hand to troubleshoot, and we also suggest checking out the Zoom support site for more help.

Do I have to be an ONA or NPA member to attend this meetup?

No, there's no membership requirement. Please feel free to share with others in your network, too.

Will closed captioning be available?

We will make closed captioning available. Please let us know at registration if this would help you participate so that we can ensure it’s available in breakout rooms as well.
