Mothers of Black Children Have the Talk, then Walk the Walk: Considerations for Psychotherapy

A lecture and clinical workshop with Beverly Greene, Ph.D.

Beverly Greene, Ph.D., 2023 recipient of the American Psychological Association’s award for Outstanding Lifetime Contributions, will discuss essential points for therapists working with parents, children, and mothers of black children. Based on her recent research and clinical experience, Dr. Greene will provide an in-depth exploration of the ubiquitous, mundane, and extreme psychological stressors associated with parenting black children in environments permeated by systemic racism. This lecture will pay particular attention to the sequelae of police violence.

Learning Objectives

I. To articulate many of the stresses that are unique to parenting black children.
