Overview

“Moth” is a full-length, multi-media production by Dev Dance Theater in collaboration with Andrea Brook as The Sonic Butterfly.

"Moth" takes us through an ancestral drama as a young woman returns to her family home in search of answers about her grandmother’s past. As she unearths more and more artifacts from the home, the veil between space and time grows thinner and thinner, represented by movement, poetry, and live music from The Sonic Butterfly.

Instructions:

Gates open at 7pm. Parking on site, but please give yourself time for parking wiggle:) Seating from 7:30-7:45. Venue doors close at 7:50, and SHOW STARTS AT 8:00PM SHARP!!! Once the show starts you *cannot enter until intermission (the entrance is across our stage!)

The entrance/gate to venue is just a few feet past the Montessori School! Neighboring property. If you get to Rancho Matilija property, you have gone too far. This is a private estate, please drive in slowly and enter with care.

No alcoholic drinks on site. There will be some elixirs and kava drinks for sale. A natural buzz… lean into it ✨

Adult language is used. Children who are comfortable sitting quietly through a full length show are welcome with a parent or guardian.

“Moth” was born out of the desire to bring Dev Dance Theater and The Sonic Butterfly together in collaboration. Once the story was decided upon, the collaborative team quickly started growing with some of Ojai’s finest theatrical designers: Clair Cleary (lighting) and Natasha Heaszl (set). As a special treat, we finally have the chance to collaborate with artists who have been loyally supporting us for years. Christopher Justiz Roush is designing specialty projections for our show, all generated on his home-built computer (some of which will be coded live during the performance). Christina Justiz Roush has created custom sculptures of our principal dancers specially for this performance, which will be repurposed in a later installation of her own work. The story was created to honor the artistic pursuits of our own great-grandmothers, and the sacrifices they made so that we could one day carry on their legacy.
