Moth Night at Point Molate

The Point Molate Alliance (PMA) is a diverse coalition of Richmond residents and supporters – many of whom played a crucial role in defeating plans for a mega-casino on this natural headland eight years ago when our citizens voted 58% to 42% against that scheme.Since then the casino developer has sued the city leading to a recent and unreasonable “settlement” agreement between him and our pro-development Mayor Tom Butt that would see a massive private housing development for the wealthy built on this undeveloped public parkland that should be a resource and community benefit for all the people.

Join <A HREF="https://whollyh2o.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wholly H2O </A>and <A HREF="https://ptmolatealliance.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Point Molate Alliance </A>to see the large array of moths that live at Point Molate. Best done at night when moths are active, we'll have a couple of sites for you to check out moths gathering with the aid of black lights and white cloths. Expert <A HREF="https://baynature.org/author/damon-tighe/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Damon Tighe</A> from the <A HREF="https://calnature.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CA Center for Natural History</A> will lead us into veritable mothdom.
This is a rare experience to experience Point Molate at night and learn from a super fun and knowledgeable moth man. Plan for being surprised at what you'll find. We'll put all of our observations up on <A HREF="https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?project_id=42042" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">iNaturalist</A>, where Point Molate already has over 1800 observations, mostly from our work in the last few months documenting species. We want to keep the spectacular Point Molate as open space, and usable for our waterhood neighbors, as well as us humans.
