Event description
Join Mash Gallery on Saturday, November 9th from 7 - 10 pm for the opening of Morph, a group exhibition exploring figurative distortion.

About this Event

“Believe it or not, I can actually draw.” (Jean-Michel Basquiat 1960 - 1988)

Throughout art history, artists have intentionally distorted the figure to create some of the most well known and impactful masterpieces. Morph is a collection of contemporary paintings that function together as both an acknowledgment of the historical trajectory of artists creating figurative works, and a deviation from the standard ideas of taste, pushing the boundaries and redesigning figuration as the artist sees fit. By contorting the figure, the artist advances the composition and creates a freakish statement. Through creative surgery, artists compose with the goal to represent not from a place of realism but to instead lead the viewer through an open-ended story of emotional intensity and humor. Morph is an incautious attempt to capture that which does not exist in reality and to provoke a challenging artistic appreciation.

Morph opens Saturday, November 9th from 7 - 10 PM at Mash Gallery, and runs through December 21, 2019. Artworks featured from local and international artists working in a variety of mediums including painting, ceramic sculpture, and textile.

Featured artists include Jordan Betten, David Deweerdt, Shaelin Jornigan, Corey K Lamb, Haleh Mashian, Molly Morning-Glory, Erik Mark Sandberg (featured image), Serge Serum, Jayne Anita Smith, Alexander Varvaridze, and Samuelle Richardson.
