About this event

Join us for a Moonlight Horseback Ride on Friday June 14th 2024 at 8078 Whitfield Road, Newark, IL 60541. After the ride we'll enjoy an old-fashioned hoe-down in the barn, instructed by professional caller Bob Huckabey.

We'll put glowsticks on the horses and start the ride as the sun is going down.

This guided horseback ride is approximately an hour through meadows, creeks, and woods illuminated with fairy lights. After the ride we'll have ourselves a square dance! You don't need any dancing experience to join- just get off your horse and learn some new steps!

Later we'll have a bonfire on the hill, and the horses will be turned out to join us. You'll have an opportunity to give your favorite horse a treat. Please feel free to bring any snacks and beverages you'd like to enjoy by the bonfire.

Please review our FAQ and height/weight requirements below, and contact us with questions at saddlesnaps123@gmail.com (If you don't fit into the height/weight requirements, we might be able to accommodate you-- please email for more details.)

Don't miss out on this unique and unforgettable experience. Book your spot today!

Frequently asked questions

What time does the ride start?

Please arrive to the upper level of the barn to sign in by the start-time on your ticket. For safety reasons, we must begin the ride while there is still daylight. Late arrivals will not be accommodated and no refunds will be provided for late arrivals.

What should I wear?

Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Cowboy boots are perfect if you have them. Your shoe must fit in a 5" wide stirrup so please do not wear wide work boots/steel toe boots. Gym shoes are okay for this ride. You can dance in the same clothes you wore for the ride.

Can I bring a non-riding guest to the dance?

Tickets for non-riding guests may be purchased separately.

Do I need to know how to square dance?

No. Caller Bob Huckabey has guided many beginners in learning their first square-dance steps. If you've been dancing for years or haven't tried it since 7th grade gym class, just come ready to have a good time.

What should I bring?

Each guest should bring a bag chair for the bonfire. Bug-spray is recommended. We recommend a small backpack or fanny pack for holding keys, phones, etc. Feel free to bring snacks and beverages to enjoy by the bonfire- anything legal to consume in IL is okay to bring.

Do I need riding experience to participate?

Although this ride is safe for beginners, it is a more challenging ride and not recommended for first-time riders. If you've never ridden before, please book a daytime ride at www.millbrooktrailrides.com before signing up for a moonlight ride.

What is the refund policy?

Tickets may be resold by the purchaser but refunds will only be given if the ride is canceled by the event organizer. If you re-sell tickets, buyer must be informed of ride FAQ and height/weight requirements.

Can my child ride?

This particular ride is for adults age 21 and over only.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Helmets are encouraged, but not required. Helmets in a variety of sizes are available for free to borrow at the barn for your ride.
