MoonFall

In a land of dualities, the Sun, Moon, Magician and Human Citizens clash over the balance of the realm. Where do you stand?

MoonFall is a new immersive and interactive mythic fantasy ballet that explores desire, climate change, community, and our relationship with the cosmos. At times poignant and at others delightful, MoonFall tells a story of the Sun and Moon’s dualistic orbit and the humans whose movements push and pull on their natural world. MoonFall is the brainchild of international dancer, choreographer, and producer Dorothy O’Shea Overbey and award-winning cinematic composer Sam Lipman. This innovative new theatrical experience is presented by two Austin arts organizations - Density512 and Red Nightfall Dance Theatre - with 12 local Austin professional dancers and a live chamber orchestra of 13 Austin musicians.

MoonFall bridges classical and contemporary styles and blurs the barrier between audiences and performers. Guests are invited to step into a fantasy world where they will be surrounded by floor-to-ceiling projections of the MoonFall world designed and painted by interdisciplinary artist Yuliya Lanina! Act 2 will feature three synchronous scenes, each taking place in a separate space. We invite you to choose your own path to experience these spaces, perhaps even following your favorite character from room to room.

This is a show for dance and classical music buffs, theatre-lovers, readers and players of fantasy, and world citizens of all ages! Attend in fantasy attire if you are inspired, and enter the realm of MoonFall half an hour before the show begins to experience optional activities that will influence the ballet. Try becoming a Sun Apprentice, cast a spell with some friends, or prepare for your journey at the Adventurer’s Shop and Tavern! Pre-show activities will influence the performance. At key points in the story, the cast will need the audience’s help to move the story forward.

Pre (and post) Show Activities in Realm of MoonFall

- Find out if you have what it takes to be a Builder's Apprentice or Magician's Apprentice
- Create an Incantation and Cast a Spell with some friends or other guests
- Prepare for your journey at the Adventurer’s Shop and Tavern

SPECIAL EVENTS
May 10th - Opening Night, with composer Sam Lipman performing at the VIP experience!
May 11th - Family Night! MoonFall is a show for all ages, but on this night we invite you especially to bring your young adventurers, your Moms, your chosen family!
May 17th - Deaf Night, with ASL interpretation by the amazing team at Stardust ASL!💫

Red Nightfall Dance Theatre believes that the arts should be accessible to everyone. If you are an artist, educator, or if the price of sliding scale admission is prohibitive to you, you can use the Promo Code ARTIST2 to when purchasing a General Admission ticket for May 16, 17, or 18, and the price will change to $20. We have a limited amount of these seats set aside for each performance. This is honor system - if you can afford to purchase a ticket at full price, please do so!
