Join us for a conversation on transforming history into art through Charlottesville’s “Swords into Plowshares” project. (Apr 22, 6–8 PM)

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 6 - 8 PM, please join us for a discussion with Dr. Andrea Douglas, Executive Director of the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Douglas is helping lead Charlottesville’s effort to transform bronze from the melted Robert E. Lee statue into new public art. Through the “Swords into Plowshares” project, she’s guiding a community-driven process where artists will bring forward ideas centered on unity and inclusion. We look forward to our discussion on the ways artists can change painful symbols of the past into objects that shape collective memory.This event is in conjunction with Spelman’s Quarterman Keller Social Justice Program. Register for the event or to receive a recording. This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Parking is $3.
