About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Most of us with a passing relationship with wine have heard of Pinot Noir, one of the wine world’s most noble grape varietals. “Pinot” as it’s often called make the makes plush silky-fruited wines in California; incense-and-earth scented wines in Chile; and the most revered wines in the world from the limestone-studded vineyards of France’s renowned Burgundy region. But did you know that there’s more than one Pinot type?

Pinot Noir (or ‘black’ Pinot ) has three siblings, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, both white and pink-skinned grapes respectively whose progeny has spread from France north to Germany (where they’re known as Weissburdunger and Grauburgunder respectively) down to the alpine slopes of North-east Italy (Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio).

Long ago, the Pinot family (which technically includes Chardonnay) also established a foothold in the chalky-soil of Champagne just northeast of Burgundy where, together with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier is a mainstay of the region’s celebrated sparkling wine.

With so many offshoots, national, and regional styles the Pinot family has found a plethora of different expressions each representative of the sense of place that makes great wine compelling.

In this seminar we explore some of the less familiar expressions of the Pinot family as well as compare and contrast Pinot Noir across various countries.

In this WINE-TASTING SEMINAR we explore:

  • The story of the Pinot Family
  • Identify the 'different types of Pinot" and their styles
  • Discuss Pinot production around the world
  • Taste, discuss, compare and contrast Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir

All attendees receive 10% off all wines at The Roe starting with the first bottle purchased on day of event. Some restrictions apply.
