About this event

Join us each Monday morning at Forest & Farm (4028 Hwy 522 in Commanda) from 10am until 11:30 for some Fun in the Forest!

Our Forest & Family Program is open to Parents and/or Caregivers and their Youth of all-ages.

The one-and-a-half-hour session includes Nature-Based & Seasonal Group Activities, Mini Excursions and/or Crafts.

We also prioritize allowing space and time for Natural Inquiry and Play to unfold in a child-led and adult-supported way.

We'll have our focus set on Spring over the coming weeks...

🌳💧Tapping Birch Trees

🍁🥞Enjoying fresh Maple Syrup

🐦🪺Discovering Birds

🌿☘️Identifying Plants & Trees

and much, much more!

Please BYOB (Bring your own (Water) Bottles) and a nut-free snack if desired.

We also ask participants to ensure that they and their Youth wear attire that is appropriate to the current season and weather conditions, as we will be outdoors for the duration of the Program.

Frequently asked questions

What should we bring to these sessions?

Outdoor attire, appropriate to the Season and the current Weather Conditions is very important (e.g. rubber boots, sun hat). Insect repellent & sunscreen (May-Aug) are recommended. Please bring refillable water bottles and a litterless/nut-free snack.

Our family pet loves to go for walks in the Forest, too! Can we bring our dog along with us?

We operate our Program at Forest & Farm, a working farm with many gardens and livestock. Though we understand our canine friends are family, we kindly ask that all participants PLEASE LEAVE PETS AT HOME.

Are there any risks or hazards we should be aware of?

As is such with all of life, there are inherent risks we might encounter. Awareness is key to reducing risk of harm: Items to try to avoid include electric fences (in the farm areas), our honey bee hives, steep slopes, the water's edge, and areas close to the highway. Adult support improves safety.

Where is Commanda? How do we get to your location?

We are located at Forest & Farm, at 4028 Hwy 522. We are located between the Commanda Community Centre and the Commanda Museum, on the North side of the Road. From Trout Creek: Head West on 522 for approximately 15 minutes. From Port Loring: Head East on 522 for approximately 25 minutes.

How do we find the Group if we arrive late?

We kindly ask participants to Google their directions to our location in advance to ensure a timely arrival. We can wait for 5 minutes beyond the start-time for any who might be delayed. We begin each session at our gathering site in the forest, and can put up directional signage for late arrivals.

Does this Program have a participant fee?

We operate our Parent & Child Program on a suggested-donation basis ($10 per family). Though this donation is not mandatory for participation, we very much appreciate any contribution amount that folks can make. The funds all go toward materials/supplies for the programming and space improvements.
